SUMO4COBRAS

What makes a community radio last?Sustainable Models for Community Web Radios in Europe (SUMO4COBRAS) set out to explore that question through an Erasmus+ cooperation project coordinated by Kiosk Radio alongside Refuge Worldwide (Berlin) and Radio Dopo (Palermo).

Rather than searching for a single blueprint, the project explored how independent radios respond to the places they inhabit. Over the course of two years, the partners travelled between Brussels, Berlin and Palermo, spending time inside each other's organisations, hosting workshops and opening conversations with artists, broadcasters and local communities. Those exchanges eventually became Hyper-local, Hyper-global, a handbook reflecting on what makes community radio resilient in different contexts. Accessible for free here.

At the same time, those conversations fed directly into the launch of Radio Dopo in Palermo, proving that knowledge becomes most valuable when it moves beyond documentation and into practice. More than a research project, SUMO4COBRAS became an ongoing exchange between people who believe that independent radio is not simply a way of broadcasting music, but a way of building communities.
