Les Morts: Beginning with an existential question posed in a scene from Hong Sang-soo’s film The Day After, Edith’s sound drama Les Morts unfolds as a one-hour musical journey through the poetry of Yun Dong-ju, opening with a reinterpretation of his poem Night Walk (Ya-haeng). Moving between innocence and guilt, redemption and resistance, Yun’s poetry reflects the inner tensions of an artist living under colonial rule. At the heart of the set is his poem Cross, whose themes of self-examination and the longing for liberation resonate throughout the work. Rather than a story of resignation, Les Morts traces a search for meaning in the face of constraint and uncertainty. Borrowing its title from Jean-Paul Sartre’s essay Les Morts, the set reimagines existential inquiry as a musical narrative.
