Outsiders: Kanal w/ Devrim Bayar
For several years, Devrim Bayar has explored a little-known chapter of Brussels’ history: its central role in the European alternative music scene around 1980. A key figure was Annik Honoré, working at the Belgian Embassy in London and closely connected to the British post-punk scene.
Invited by choreographer Frédéric Flamand, she joined Michel Duval as a concert programmer at Plan K (1979–1984). During this period, they also ran the Benelux branch of Manchester’s Factory Records. This experience led them, together with Brussels graphic designer Benoît Hennebert, to launch the label in 1980.
Devrim Bayar’s selection highlights releases from Crépuscule and related labels during Honoré’s most active years, capturing the label’s early spirit: elegant yet experimental, playful in texture and rich with offbeat melodies.
